About Front Yard Food
Front Yard Food was born in 2009 in Portland, Oregon, and sprang out of the desire of many first-time gardeners to convert their front yards into edible space. We began providing site assessment, planning, and inspiration for turning lawns into lunch.
Moving to the Big Island of Hawai'i, Front Yard Food began direct outreach to the community via the Hilo Farmer's Market in 2011, and since then, has given away over 5,700 vegetable, herb, and fruit tree seedlings and counting, as well as provided inspiration and information to many would-be gardeners, and seasoned green thumbs alike. This would not have been possible without the help of a generous and growing Front Yard Food community.
